Virtual and Augmented reality are often called 'holographic' mediums: as a user moves around while wearing a headset, they see new views of a scene, similar to viewing a hologram. But how do you generate these views? The most common approach is to use video game tools: encode the world as polygons and textures. But there's another way: light fields.
Visby cofounder Ryan Damm will explain the emerging technology of holographic light fields, and how they apply to VR/AR (they're not just for refocusing!). He'll also cover the challenges of capturing and representing light fields, and how light fields play nicely (or not) with more traditional, polygon-based approaches.
